A vast percentage of the Asian population are born with monolids, also known as single eyelids. The reason for this is an absence of a fibrous ligament connecting the tarsal plate to the eyelid skin. When the fibrous ligament is present, it tugs the skin to form a crease whenever the eye is open resulting in the appearance of double eyelids.
The double eyelid suture is by far the most popular method to create a ‘double eyelid crease’. It is a non-invasive and non-incisional method used to create natural looking double eyelids by the insertion of a suture. It is also suitable for anyone who wishes to modify or enhance their eyelid crease.
What can I expect after the treatment?
After the procedure, there will be localized swelling and redness. In rare cases there may also be slight bruising. As a result, the crease may appear more elevated initially. The swelling will gradually subside over a span of 3 – 7 days. There may also be associated tearing and a feeling of tightness which will resolve within a few days.
Are there any complications? If yes, what are they?
There are a few rare complications that may occur after the procedure. In some cases, especially in clients with have a background of skin allergies, the resolution of swelling and subsequent healing may take a longer period. Infection may occasionally occur but can easily be resolved with a course of antibiotics. Another very rare complication is the formation of imbalanced double eyelid creases. This is often due to slight differences in the muscle strength of both eyes and can easily be rectified.
